Taurag\u0117 district municipality occupies 1179 sq. km area. Of which, agricultural land makes up 52.75%, forests – 35.19%, roads – 1.44%, cities and settlements – 2.12%, water bodies – 1.61%, other areas – 6.89 percent.<\/p>

Taurag\u0117 district municipality was established in 1995 and is\u00a0 medium sized municipality in Lithuania with a population of about 38 thousand residents. There are 8 elderships in the district municipality: Batakiai, Gaur\u0117, Lauksargiai, Ma\u017eonai, Skaudvil\u0117, \u017dygai\u010diai, Taurag\u0117 district and Taurag\u0117 city district.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    Taurag\u0117 district – the greenest district of Lithuania – such a message has been spreading since 2015<\/strong><\/p>

    The initiative to become the greenest district, quickly became one of the priority works of Taurag\u0117 municipality, which is systematically implemented and continues. Solar, wind, water and even sludge energy is used. The largest wind farm in the country has been installed in the district, the second largest hydroelectric power plant in the country is located in Balskai Dam near Taurag\u0117, sludge processing facilities are operating, and solar power plants are located on the roofs of public institutions. Taurag\u0117 District Municipality implements various solutions that increase energy efficiency, declares electricity savings and has become a member of the ESO Intelligent Energy Club.<\/p>

    Dependence on the global network is inevitable, so as we go hand in hand with the flow of information about the work done and the need for skilled workers, we shout out loud!<\/p>

    Climate-neutral and smart city by 2030<\/strong><\/p>

    Taurag\u0117 was chosen by the European Commission as one of the European cities aiming to become climate neutral by the year 2030! After evaluating the applications of 377 European cities, the European Commission selected 100 cities from EU countries that became participants of the mission.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Vilnius and Taurag\u0117 were among these cities and will implement an experimental innovation program striving to become climate-neutral settlements by 2030.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>

    The Taurag\u0117 district is famous for its climate-friendly initiatives: 16 electric buses transport residents local and regional routes, solar power plants have been installed on public buildings in the city, a remote solar power plant will start operating soon, 99% of the district has<\/span><\/span> centrally supplied heat is produced from biofuel, charging stations for electric cars are installed all over the town, all the streets of the district are lit with economical LED lights, thanks to which the municipality saves 40% annually<\/span><\/span>\u00a0electricity.<\/span><\/span> Also, Taurag\u0117 was the first in Lithuania to implement a comprehensive project of public bicycle storage facilities. <\/span><\/span><\/p>

    The European Commission, as part of its Climate Neutral and Smart Cities mission, will contribute to 100 selected European cities aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2030<\/span><\/span>\u00a0neutralize its impact on the climate, development.<\/span><\/span> The city of Taurag\u0117 will be supported by the European Commission and will become a pilot innovation center in the areas of increasing renewable energy resources, decarbonizing the transport system, renewing urban spaces, modernizing buildings, conserving water, implementing a circular economy and other areas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    • In 2005 Taurag\u0117 District Municipality was awarded the Golden Crave \u201cFor Friend’s Friendship\u201d established by the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania.<\/li>
    • In 2014 Taurag\u0117 District Municipality was awarded the Golden Curve “For purposeful use of EU investments for complex territorial development”. This award was given by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania.<\/li>
    • In 2015 Taurag\u0117 District Municipality has even been awarded two Golden Curves: “For Improving the Investment Environment”, “Strong Community – Strong Europe”.<\/li>
    • In 2018 Taurag\u0117 District Municipality was awarded the Golden Curve for Entrepreneurship Promotion, established by the Ministry of Economy.<\/li>
    • In 2018 The municipality of Taurag\u0117 district received the highest award of the “Kryptis Lietuva” for the “Globali Taurag\u0117” project, which seeks to integrate expatriates from Taurag\u0117 into the life of their native land, provides them with opportunities to contribute to the creation of the city’s well-being, constantly maintains and strengthens the relationship with them<\/li>
    • In 2019 Taurag\u0117 District Municipality was awarded the Golden Curve \u201cFor Cooperation with Non-Governmental Organizations and Ambitious Plans in It\u201d, which was established by the Ministry of Social Security and Labor.<\/li>
    • In 2020 Taurag\u0117 District Municipality was awarded with 2 Golden Curves \u201eFor green investments\u201c established by the representatives of the European Commission in Lithuania and \u201eFor environmental friendliness and sustainable mobility projects\u201c established by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.<\/li>
    • In 2020 Taurag\u0117 District Municipality was awarded with mark \u201eFor impeccable governance\u201c by the Council of Europe.<\/li>
    • In 2022 the municipality of Taurag\u0117 district was evaluated for its social responsibility and awarded “For helping those returning to society by strengthening the half-way house network”. The award was given by the Ministry of Justice.<\/li>
