Batakiai eldership currently has about 1,500 inhabitants, mostly in Batakiai town (360 inhabitants). There are 32 villages in Batakiai eldership. Five – Kerteniai, Karklotė, Santakai, Šidagiai and Užšešuviai – are no longer inhabited. Batakiai Secondary School, Batakiai and Norkiškė Primary Schools operate in the eldership. There is a post office, 3 libraries, a culture house, a medical point, 5 private shops. There are two churches in the eldership – Batakiai St. Anne Roman Catholics and Bataki Evangelical Lutherans.
